Today is Wednesday, and in three short sleeps the Moss Street Community Market starts up again in full swing! I'm working on some new projects for Natural Pod that I will also bring to the Market - I am really excited about a little organic flannel Rabbit Rattle that is taking shape on my sewing table.
Getting ready for the Market is such a trip. There are so many concrete things to get organized and product to make, and there's so much room for creativity and new ideas - I've got to get grounded in the here and now, starting with pulling out my market tent to make sure that it isn't full of holes. I've been thinking a lot about my experiences at the Market last summer, and how simply it all began. I was making baby gear from organics and upcycled fabrics for Little R. and for some friends with new babes. Everything was so well received, and the creating process was so satisfying for me. I sold upcycled duvet covers under the name "Dress Me Up Darla" at the Moss Street Market many years ago, and last spring I remembered how great it was then to be part of that community. I decided to call up the review team and got myself on board.

I can't believe how Dress Me Up - gear for little ones on the go - has grown in the last year. I've learned so much, been insanely challenged, and have been incredibly fortunate to have completely supportive family, friends and retailers. The photo of my early set up makes me smile - it's so downhome. I refined things as the Market season progressed and really like how things are now, it's just such a kick to be reminded of the simple beginnings.
I probably won't get around to posting again before the Market on Saturday (unless I just can't wait to share the Rabbit Rattle!), so I'm making this post count. Our little family made it home from our time in Naramata and we haven't looked back ... though, wasn't that one of my learning goals from the leadership course - to not rush through things? I suppose I should dig out my notes. ;)
The night we arrived home, a good friend from Winnipeg also arrived for a 3 night stay. We've had a number of really fun days of errand running, farm frolicking and product making. Fortunately J. is a list maker like me and appreciates the crossing off of tasks. It's also fortunate that he is so comfortable and awesome with Little R. because he was able to keep her happily entertained while I worked on my latest order for Natural Pod.

The last night he was here, J. joined me and N. and G. from next door for a West Wing Dress Me Up Sweatshop Session, as the last minute rush to order completion is often lovingly - and tragically - named. This is the true test of friendship - sitting on the guest's inflatable mattress on the living room floor surrounding by piles of wool, soft block shells and untied Bonbons working nimbly and quickly while earnestly trying to follow the labyrinth of walking and talking unfolding on the screen. I wish I had a picture of that night, it was something else. Gosh - that was just last night.
Well, during post writing Little R. occupied herself instead on the aforementioned inflatable mattress that still lays out on our living room floor. It's like her own private bouncy castle. But without walls. I've got the sofa cushions propped up on all the hard corners of furniture lest she finds herself ricocheting off the record player stand. I suppose I should get back to her, eh?
